Astigmatism and the analysis of its surgical correction.

چکیده
Modern cataract and refractive surgery aims not only to improve vision but to provide a good unaided visual acuity. Correcting astigmatic errors and control of surgically induced astigmatism are now an integral part of such operative procedures. Technological innovations and surgical developments in recent times have provided new methods for correction of astigmatism. However, evaluating the outcome of surgery for astigmatism presents particular diYculties, especially with the statistical comparison of diVerent treatment groups. In this review we will discuss the nature of astigmatism and its various refractive eVects and how this relates to cataract and refractive surgical outcomes. The use and limitations of vectors and other methods for the analysis of change in astigmatism after surgery will be discussed along with appropriate statistical methods and suggestions for data presentation.

Small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) in the correction of myopic astigmatism: outcomes and limitations - an update
Small Incision Lenticule Extraction (SMILE) is a flap-free intrastromal technique for the correction of myopia and myopic astigmatism. To date, this technique lacks automated centration and cyclotorsion control, so several concerns have been raised regarding its capability to correct moderate or high levels of astigmatism. The objective of this paper is to review the reported SMILE outcomes for...
متن کاملThe Effect of Epiblepharon Surgery on Visual Acuity and With-the-Rule Astigmatism in Children
PURPOSE To evaluate the effect of epiblepharon surgery on visual acuity and with-the-rule astigmatism in children compared to patients without surgical treatment. METHODS We undertook a retrospective case control study and reviewed the charts of 202 eyes treated with epiblepharon surgery and of 142 eyes without surgery. The surgical procedure for epiblepharon correction used rotating suture t...
متن کاملResults of the AcrySof Toric intraocular lenses implantation
BACKGROUND The expectations of post-removal cataract surgery patients are extremely high, and best vision acuity is expected. The best refractive results are influenced by two factors - cataract surgical removal and the corneal astigmatism correction. Currently, the two most often applied corneal astigmatism removal methods are laser surgery and toric intraocular lens implantation, with the lat...
متن کاملComparison of Astigmatic Correction after Femtosecond Lenticule Extraction and Small-Incision Lenticule Extraction for Myopic Astigmatism
PURPOSE To compare postoperative astigmatic correction between femtosecond lenticule extraction (FLEx) and small-incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) in eyes with myopic astigmatism. METHODS We examined 26 eyes of 26 patients undergoing FLEx and 26 eyes of 26 patients undergoing SMILE to correct myopic astigmatism (manifest astigmatism of 1 diopter (D) or more). Visual acuity, cylindrical re...

PURPOSE To evaluate the astigmatic outcomes of wavefront-guided sub-Bowman keratomileusis (WFG-SBK) for low to moderate myopic astigmatism. METHODS This study enrolled 100 right eyes from 100 patients who underwent WFG-SBK for the correction of myopia and astigmatism. The polar value method was performed with anterior and posterior corneal astigmatism measured with Scheimpflug camera combined...
